Most likely diagnosis?

5. A newborn infant appears with hypoplastic nails, flattened nose, and hypertelorism. Mother was receiving anti-convulsant during pregnancy.

    Most likely diagnosis?
    ANSWER: Turner syndrome (45, X).

    A 3.4 kg infant lost 200 gram s body weight in 3 days. Infant’s weight is 3.2 kg after 3 days. The infant is otherwise doing well.
    Most likely cause?
    ANSWER: Normal or physiologic weight loss. About 2% weight loss per day for a few days is acceptable, if the infant is otherwise doing well.

    How to examine muscle tone in newborn infants?
    ANSWER: Arm recoil.

    A newborn appears with broad toe or thumb.
    Most likely diagnosis?
    ANSWER: Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome.


    A newborn infant appears with hypoplastic nails, flattened nose, and hypertelorism . Mother was receiving anti-convulsant during pregnancy.
    Name the anti-convulsant mother is taking?
    Most likely cause?
    ANSWER: Mother was treated with phenytoin (Dilantin)
