TRIPOD POSITION: What does it indicate?

When children are sitting in the tripod position, they are having difficulty breathing. The child is sitting and leaning forward in order to breathe more easily.
Diminished breath sounds are indicative of a worsening condition. A muffled cough indicates that the child has some sub-glottic edema. This child has several signs and symptoms of a worsening respiratory condition.
